Abstract
In this paper, we reported a high peak power eye-safe all-fiber laser operating at 1565 nm employing a master-oscillator power-amplification structure. An intensity-modulated narrow-bandwidth semiconductor laser diode with average power of 20.3 mW, repetition of 100 kHz, and pulsewidth of 15 ns was used as the seed source. Two stages of all-fiber amplifier were used to scale up to 6.79 W average power with 16.4 ns pulsewidth by employing pure Yb-free Er-doped fiber. The calculated peak power was 4.12 kW, and four-wave mixing and stimulated Raman scattering were the main limitations of power scaling. No 1 μm amplified spontaneous emission was observed in the amplifier, which was attractive in a low-repetition pulse laser condition.
