Spectral distribution of a high pressure CO2 laser: experiment and theory

Abstract

The spectral characteristics of a 10-atm CO2 laser have been studied. The gain minima reveal broadening and splitting tendencies of the line, correlated with a spatial deformation. These effects are quantitatively explained by a theoretical model which underlines the role of transverse modes higher than TEM00 on the spectral distribution. We have developed analytical formulas which can be used for any type of homogeneously broadened lasers.
