Theory of the photoacoustic effect in condensed matter

Abstract

The basic equations governing the photoacoustic effect in condensed matter are derived based on themoelastic considerations. A general solution is given for the case when the pulsed light beam is used as the activation source. Some special cases where thermal diffusion is negligible are discussed.
