Method of Stabilizing the Retinal Image

Abstract

A new method to stabilize the retinal image is described that is easy to use and does not ask for heavy and protruding attachments on the subject’s contact lens. The method is treated theoretically in the paraxial approximation. Image aberrations and focusing tolerances are discussed. The method appears to be useful over the whole retina and to be exceedingly good for eccentricities up to 10°. A prototype was built that proved to function well.
